Winter 06/07 leagues will observe recent USA Hockey rule changes. USA Hockey has teamed with the NHL to establish new rules to govern several game aspects, including (but not limited to) obstruction, use of stick (hooking) and use of hands.

In short, these rule changes will have a significant impact to any/all hockey leagues that adhere to USA Hockey policies, including Summit Hockey's MNL, SNL and WNL programs. [b]It is the responsibility of each league participant to review, comprehend and adhere to these new regulations.[/b] Referees will strictly enforce the new rules, which emphasize skating and positional play... and discourage holding and "stick work".

These changes are significant... there will be a period of transition as both players and referees adjust... please excercise open-mindedness and tolerance through this transition.

1) Be accountable
2) Visit the USA Hockey site (above)
3) Review the rules
4) Watch the videos
5) Be tolerant as all adjust
6) Enjoy the improvements

Please watch this video- the new 'standard of play' will drastically change the game. Many more penalties will be called so keep your head and adjust your play. In my opinion, these changes will greatly improve the quality of play in adult hockey.
